High quality endodontic services
What is endodontics?
Endodontics focuses on the inner part of the tooth – the pulp, which contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain and lead to tooth loss if not treated promptly.
Periodontitis
It is an inflammation of the tissues around the root of the tooth, often caused by untreated pulpitis, which can lead to bone loss and an abscess. Acute periodontitis develops quickly, with severe pain and swelling. Chronic, however, proceeds more slowly and is often asymptomatic for a long time. In this case, careful prevention and X-ray diagnostics are important.
Most common causes of inflammation of the pulp
Untreated tooth decay can reach the pulp and cause infection.
Physical injuries, such as impacts or fractures, can damage the pulp. Cracks in the tooth can allow bacteria to get inside the tooth and cause infection.
Repeated procedures on the same tooth can irritate the pulp.
Signs and symptoms of pulpitis/periodontitis
- Severe pain in the tooth, especially when chewing or pressing.
- Prolonged sensitivity of the tooth to heat or cold.
- Swelling of the gums around the affected tooth.
- Tooth darkening.
- Appearance of fistulas (small pimples) on the gums.
What can we do?
Treatment of pulp diseases
Root canal treatment is the most common procedure in endodontics. It involves removing the infected or inflamed pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the root canals and filling them with biocompatible material.
If the initial root canal treatment is not successful, a repeat treatment may be required to remove residual infection.
In cases where the infection cannot be cured with conventional root canal treatment, a surgical procedure is performed to remove the tip of the root and the infected tissue.
